Week 2 Reflections Climene Arruda

My reflections:

How can online social bookmarking help you?
Well, as you can share information according to your interests with different people and communities you are not alone anymore as a teacher.

- What are the advantages of having bookmarking as a social activity?
It organizes information and offers a great variety of options to do research and to share common interests.

- How could Diigo be used in your classroom?
We can start a community and start interacting according to the group's interests.

- What were your main difficulties to get started with social bookmarking?
It is a lot of info. so it took me some time to understand its functions and purposes and it will take me some more time to really use all the tools Diigo offers.

Did you find any interesting resources shared by your peers? Please, add the link to it.

Week 1 Reflections Climene Arruda

After watching YOUTUBE videos and going on the Web 2.0 safari, I've learned that I have to change my practice.

These videos are awesome!!!! Just amazing! I felt like watching them over and over. It's a lot of food for thought.

When I watched that student sleeping on the desk I thought of my classes! The thing I want most is to engage my students.

When you teach at private courses where you have few students and they go for a short time it's kind of easy to get them involved.

But when you teach early in the morning sleepy students who went to bed late because they were surfing the Net and to get things

even worse you have that kind of teaching which students have to 'play school' (as one boy reported on the video) is really

frustrating for both teacher and students. Change, I have to change. I try to use audios, podcasts, the internet to search for articles

but even though this is not enough because so far they have been extra activities in my classes.  There was this question : "Since

your students already know how to use this technology, why aren't you using it to teach?" There is no doubt, we have to do that!

We want active participants in our classrooms. But what I find it difficult is to have  pedagogical tasks using tech in a linked and

meaninful way to students. I mean , not only extra activities. I don't use tech more often and I believe some teachers don't either

because I'm not a native digital teacher. My generation is not familiar with all technoly available and besides that we need to have

pedagogical curriculum which incorporates tech use. If teachers do not know how to teach using tech how can they do that?

That's why I'm taking this course to learn!!!!! I don't want to have students sleeping in class. It's so frustrating!
